Finely Wrought Antique Chinese Pewter Tea Pot, six-sided, 19th C or earlier. This piece has a wonderful patina as
can be seen in the photos. This is a
finely crafted and detailed piece, much higher quality than some of the
similarly shaped, crude cast versions you could find online. In addition to the six-sided body, the
domed lid is also six-sided with a mounted knob in the shape of a foo dog. The knob appears to have been colored sometime
in the past and has not been changed or cleaned in any way. The handle and spout are finely wrought bamboo
pattern. The pot is raised on six
feet. Overall, this pewter pot is
clearly hand assembled with the sides carefully joined as are the handle, spout,
and foot elements. On the base you can
see the Chinese mark. Condition: the pot body has a few dents
that can be seen in the photos but do not detract from the overall appeal of
the piece. Not uncommon for a piece that’s
around 200 years old or older. Dimensions: 7.5 inches high x 6.5
inches wide across handles and spout x 3.5 inches body width. Compare this to somewhat similar but roughly
cast tea pots found online: That piece
is described as: A heavily cast, six-sided Chinese pewter
teapot, the domed lid mounted with a foo dog and the base raised on six feet.
Latter Qing Dynasty (19th C.) – selling for $270. Note that I’m not an expert but have estimated the age based
on discussions with others and online research. I don’t read Chinese and don’t know what the mark means. You can make your own determination as you
see fit. I do know that this is a fine
piece and, regardless of the specific age and mark details, is a good value for
an attractive Finely Wrought Antique Chinese Pewter Tea Pot with details as shown here. Happy to answer questions or
send additional photos.
