Pottery & Glass / Decorative Cookware, Dinnerware & Serveware / Tea & Coffee Pots
ORIGINAL Antique GEORG JENSEN Signed Denmark Tin Glazed Art Pottery Teapot Up for sale is this unique piece, done and signed by the hand of the famous Danish Jeweler, Silversmith, Potter and Sculptor Georg Arthur Jensen (1866-1935) A hand turned redware teapot, with a bamboo handle. It is an earlier work of Jensen's. After graduating from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (
Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi) in 1892 he started sculpting and studying ceramics with Joachim Petersen (1870-1943), then modeling for Bing & Grondahl Porcelain Factory. In 1898 he opened his own small pottery workshop in partnership with Christian Petersen (1885-1961). His works as a sculptor and potter were well received, but the sales were not strong enough to support Jensen, now a widower with two sons. In 1899 he made his first piece of silver jewelry and by 1901 abandoned ceramics and began working exclusively as a jeweler and silversmith
